The Core Problem: Friction in Calorie Tracking
For decades, digital nutrition tracking has relied on a tedious, highly manual process. Users are forced to search text databases, estimate portion sizes, and manually log every macro. This massive friction is the number one reason users abandon health apps within the first two weeks. Our client approached us to design a conceptual mobile application that completely eliminates this barrier using modern computer vision and AI.
Designing "Your Food, Decoded By AI"
At the heart of the application is the AI scanner. As shown in the central screen of our design showcase, we created an augmented reality (AR) style interface where users simply point their camera at their plate. The UI instantly overlays floating data nodes — for instance, identifying a broccoli floret and instantly assigning it "90 kcal", or a citrus slice at "170 kcal". The typography here is bold and legible, ensuring that the "magic" of the AI feels instantaneous and reliable.
The Macro Dashboard Experience
Once the food is scanned, it populates the main dashboard. We designed a massive, semi-circular progress widget at the top of the screen to give an immediate visual representation of the daily goal (e.g., 1250 / 2000 kcal). Below it, individual meals like "Breakfast" and "Lunch" are broken down not just by total calories, but by precise macros (Protein, Carbs, Fat) in grams. The use of a dark, minimalist bottom navigation bar contrasts beautifully with the warm, pastel orange UI elements, creating a highly premium, appetizing aesthetic.
Trending Recipes & Community
Tracking is only half the battle; inspiration is the other. The third screen introduces a "Trending Recipes" feed. We utilized beautifully rounded image cards, such as the "Quinoa Veggie Bowl," accompanied by quick tags like "Vegan" and "Protein." The design uses high-quality food photography set against soft, off-white backgrounds to make the food pop, driving user engagement and retention.
Conclusion
By blending state-of-the-art AI with a warm, accessible, and high-contrast user interface, we designed an app that doesn't just track food — it actively encourages a healthier lifestyle by making the process utterly effortless.
